EDUCATION/FORMAL TRAINING: High school diploma or equivalent required; course in medical terminology preferred.
WORK EXPERIENCE: Two years of medical office practice related experience preferred.
APTITUDES: Ability to operate accurately and efficiently general office equipment; ability to use personal computer efficiently and application software including Word, Excel, and Power Point; capability of learning medical practice billing systems; ability to maintain effective working relationship and communication level with all office personnel referral sources, patients, physicians, and general public; ability to deal effectively with patients and family members; ability to maintain patient confidentiality; ability to prioritize and maintain focus amid variety of pressures, etc.
FUNCTION: Provides a variety of tasks including greeting and scheduling of patients, obtaining insurance authorizations, performing check in, check out procedures, maintaining patient record, and other assorted duties.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential office responsiblities include, but not limited to: Greets patients and schedules appointments; otains patient insurance information and documents; obtains insurance authorizations for appointments, prescriptions, and other required services; Identifies, communicated and resolves scheduling conflicts prior to making appointments; Schedules return visits and required tests; Checks patient's account during check out for unpaid balances or collection problems; Posts all payments as received; Balances cash drawer at begining and end of each shift and as needed; prepares patient charts for schedling appointments; Scans chart information into electronic medical record; Purges charts for inactive or deceased patients; responds to requests relating to a patient's medical record; Assists with other duties as requested and/or as needed.
